نورجهان اکبر، فعال حقوق زنان در افغانستان، برنده جایزه  “ده محصل برتر” امسال در آمریکا را که مجله معتبر گلیمر معرفی می کند شد.

A Dickinson College senior, Noorjahan Akbar, has been named one of Glamour magazine’s 2013 Top 10 College Women.

In addition, Akbar is also the winner of Glamour’s $20,000 grand prize for her work supporting equal rights for Afghan girls, the college announced Thursday.

The award was announced at an April 3 ceremony in New York City.

A Kabul native and leader in the Afghan gender-equality movement, Akbar led the first march against street harassment in Afghan history and helped open the country’s first all-female Internet café.

The Glamour award is far from the first accolade Akbar has earned.

Last March, the National Conference for College Women Student Leaders named her a 2012 Woman of Distinction. That same month, she joined the Women of the World summit in New York. And, in August, Akbar was listed among nominees for Forbes’ “Most Powerful Women in the World” issue.

In September, The Patriot-News/PennLive.com wrote about her achievements and the cause that drives her.

At noon on Monday, Dickinson will recognize Akbar for her achievements and global leadership at a public event  in the Stern Center, Great Room, 208 West Louther Street.

Glamour’s competition each year recognizes 10 students across the nation for campus leadership, scholastic achievement, community involvement, and unique, inspiring goals, according to a news release from Dickinson College.

Akbar will be featured in the May issue of Glamour, which hits newsstands on April 9, and she is already profiled on the Glamour website, which highlights her plans to launch a women’s newspaper in her home country, the college said.

On Thursday, she was attending the 4th Annual Women in the World Summit in New York, with such notables as Hillary Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, Meryl Streep and Angelina Jolie. Akbar was a featured speaker at last year’s summit.
